Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Chapter Design Challenge
The Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Chapter Design Challenge is back after a highly successful pilot, giving students the chance to tackle real-world engineering problems through an SDG-focused, people-centred design approach. This year’s Challenge is set in Cape York, Australia, where teams will develop sustainable, context-driven solutions for remote communities, considering environmental, social, and long-term impacts.
Open to students across all year groups
and disciplines, this is a unique opportunity for students from our faculty
to compete against universities from across the UK. The Challenge is team-based,
so if you already have a group of like-minded friends, you can compete
together. If not, register anyway and we’ll help match you with other students
to form a team.
The competition runs from the beginning of
February and concludes with submission and finals in March. The Challenge
culminates in a Finals event at the University of Birmingham, where
teams will pitch their ideas for the chance to win a £1,000 first prize,
alongside additional awards and prizes.
Key dates:
• February 2nd – Challenge Launch
• February 10th – Global Responsibility Workshop
• March 4th – Submission Deadline
• March 7th – Finals
